I’ve read a lot of books and as they say, knowledge is power. These were some of the books I read when I hadn’t quite figured out what to do with being 40 pounds’ overweight and smoking a pack a day. When I didn’t know what I was going to do with the rest of my life or how I was going to get healthy again. Over the course of my life I can’t remember most of the books I have read or if they did have much impact on my life at all. Then there are those books that I call “eye-openers”, books that change your worldview. When I was going through that “tough time” in my life it felt great to think at least think of the possibilities of how I was going to make my life better. I’m not trying to brag here, but I’ve read enough books on the topics of wellness, personal development and creativity to fill the back of a pickup truck. Here are some books that had a big impact on me:
- Confessions of a Medical Heretic by Robert Mendelsohn, MD
- Who Gets Sick by Blair Justice, PhD
- Cancer Step Outside the Box by Ty M. Bollinger
- Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment by George Leonard
- Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
- Mindfulness by Ellen J. Langer
- Blue Ocean Strategy by Renée Mauborgne, Chan Kim
- Tao te Ching by Lao Tzu
- The Art of War by Sun Tzu
Of course, there are many more great books on personal development, strategy, creativity and wellness books out there…more than I can read in a lifetime. Now many of you might be wondering why I would put a book like the Art of War on a list like this. I would say to that is it’s important to devise a game plan on how you are going to get more out of your life. It’s important to think outside the box when devising career goals and that’s how that book helped me. I have read many more then those listed above that have impacted and changed who I am for good, but the above are some that made the biggest impression on me in my quest for knowledge. I would encourage you to get a copy of one or more of them.
How about you? What are the books that changed your life? Let me know in the comments below!
